Building Social Relationships should be required for anyone who wants to teach students with autism spectrum disorders to develop social relationships. It is comprehensive and turns a series of lessons into skills that will generalize. Dr. Bellini says it best, "This book is different. It is for parents and professionals who operate under real-world situations." The book will be required for any graduate or undergraduate student I teach as well as a recommended reading for any teacher or parent for whom I give a workshop or in service. Thank you, Scott, for creating this much-needed resource.
Customer Review: Michael Axelrod -
Building Social Relationships is the ideal resource for anyone, teacher - parent - therapist, interested in enhancing a child's social skills. Dr. Bellini provides practical strategies that are effective, proven via research, and easy to implement. He lays out a logical model for assessing and teaching social skills to children and encouraging the use of learned skills in social situations. While the book is generally aimed at helping children on the Autism Spectrum, I have found Building Social Relationships to be applicable to all children, regardless of disability status, experiencing social skill problems. In my own practice and as a consultant, I have used this book with children with intellectual disability and ADHD.
